Starbaby: Pre Class Prep

Prior to class, read through the pattern to familiarize yourself with the instructions.   As with any Quiltworx pattern, always check for corrections. These are located on the Quiltworx website under the products tab. Your pattern will have a Print date on the back page, any correction added for Starbaby after this date, take note of. I usually write the change in my pattern, then highlight it so I know it was corrected.

Preparing your foundations:

Cut out one sheet of your foundations: NP742. (Save the 2nd sheet for another sample).

You will have 2 each of foundation sheets SS1, SS2, & SS3. These are cut 1/8” from the outside solid line. Do not cut any of the interior small diamond shapes apart. Place these in bag labeled A1.

T-Templates: located on TP554, cut the strip Piecing Template SS on the outside solid line and place in Bag A1. For the remaining templates, cut these out just outside the solid line. I like to wait and cut these on the line exact when I have them placed on the fabric.   Place in bag A1.

Color your Diamonds using the color layout guide on page 5 of the instructions. For Sections S1 through S9, you will need to cut a 2 ½” strip for each color. If you repeat a fabric (3) times, you will need to cut (3) 2 ½” strips.   The best way to determine the number of 2 ½” strips is to paste swatches into your table on page 5.

I recommend making a copy of the table so to preserve your original pattern. The fabric guide swatches help you stay organized.

After you have decided on your colors, cut a 2 ½” strip as indicated and place a small label on it and place it in bag A1. Refer to page 6, upper left corner, first column for additional info.

For the background fabric, (Fabric A1), cut (2) 12 ½” x 42” strips and place in Bag A1. If you decided to add a border, those are cut (4) 5” x 42” strips and place in bag A1. (refer to Pg. 8)
