Baker's Lattice

Finished size 85 x 85”

This quilt  appears woven using 2 ½” strip and a background. The piecing is deceptively simple with four main blocks. Enjoy the sewing process and then see the results of the lattice when all the blocks are put together.

Precutting will let us construct the strips in class and begin the construction of the quilt.

Supplies:

Baker’s Lattice Pattern by Basic Grey (available at The Quilted Fox)

1 jelly roll or 40 WOF 2 ½” strips

4 ½ yards background fabric (light or dark)

¼ yard accent fabric (contrast with background)

Binding (3/4 yd) and backing (7 ¾ yd) (not needed for class)

Basic sewing supplies: neutral thread, ¼” foot, sewing machine, pins, snips, ripper, rotary cutter.

Ruler – recommend 6 or 6 ½ x 24”, 2 ½” by 12’’ or variations that allow cutting.

Way to label your pieces: sticky notes, tape, pins with numbers, baggies etc.

Precutting:

Please have precutting done prior to class

 If you are familiar with the Stripology ruler this will make your cutting very efficient and quick.

Using a 2 ½’’ ruler would be another option.

I recommend doing the cutting as listed, label carefully and store all in a plastic container.

WOF is Width of fabric (selvedge to selvedge)

HST – Half square triangle

QST – quarter square triangle

Precutting: Label cut pieces A-N (See Pattern)

Jelly Roll (40- 2 ½” x WOF strips):

A. Cut (72) 2 ½” X 10 ½” rectangles from assorted strips

B. Cut (40) 2 ½” x 8 ½” rectangles from assorted strips

C. Cut (40) 2 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles from assorted strips

D. Cut (8) 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles from assorted strips.

E. Cut (40) 2 ½” squares from assorted strips.

Background Fabric:

• Cut (22) 2 ½” x WOF strips and subcut to

F. (32) 2 ½” x 10 ½”

G. (8) 2 ½” x 8 ½’’

H. (8) 2 ½” x 6 ½”

I. (50) 2 ½’’ x 4 ½’’

J. (72) 2 ½’’ squares

• Cut (11) 4 ½’’ x WOF strips. Subcut to

(42) 4 ½’’ x 10 ½’’ rectangles. Label K

• Cut (3) 15 ½’’ x WOF strips. Subcut

M. (5) 15 ½” squares; cut each square twice diagonally to make (20) QST for setting triangles

N. (2) 8 ½” squares; cut each square once diagonally to make (4) HST for corners

Accent Fabric:

L. Cut (2) 2 ½’’ x WOF strip. Subcut (21) 2 ½’’ squares
