Quilt As You Go Placemats
This one session class will show you how to design and quilt as you go to create a set of 4 placemats.

Materials:
- Jelly Roll strips or cut your own collection of 2 ½ ” strips for this project.
- You’ll need about 20-25 strips (2 ½ ” wide by 42” full fabric width) of various colors, ranging from light, medium, and dark fabrics for good contrast. Holiday or seasonal prints or scrappy prints are great! We can cut these in class if you want.
- Narrow border: cut 8 (1 ½ ”x20”) light colored fabric. This allows for 2 borders per placemat.
- Backing fabric – 1 yard cut into 4 pieces that measure 14” x 19”
- ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable – 4 pre-cut pieces 13 ½” x 18 ½”
Project/Sewing Supplies:
- Sewing machine and walking foot (Walking foot really works well to sew the strips onto the soft and stable. Or a quarter inch foot.
- Rotary cutter, and ruler at least 3” x 24” (cutting mats available in the classroom)
- Small scissors, seam ripper, quilting clips or pins and marking pen that will work on the stabilizer
- Thread that coordinates with the project fabric. Thread for topstitching n the binding (which is the backing)
