114: Basic Machine Quilting 

Learn how to use a walking foot for straight stitch machine quilting - an easy way to add stitching to your quilt top. Straight stitching combinations make beautiful designs for your quilts.

Please note: This class requires preparing your fabric AT HOME before class to save time and focus on stitching. You must also bring a walking foot that fits your sewing machine.


Fabric and Supplies

DOWNLOAD PDF CLASS SUPPLY LIST

Backing fabric: 34 x 34 inches, light fabric such as muslin, cream or tone on tone.

Batting: Low loft cotton or polyester 36 x 36 inches. Please purchase at the Quilted Fox so you have the right batting.

Fabric for top:  9 (nine) 10.5-inch squares - muslin, cream or white tone-on-tone - 1 yard of fabric total

* Sew the squares into a nine-patch grid quilt top as your practice piece. Press the seams to one side. Bring your quilt top, batting and backing to class WITHOUT basting.

Pattern: Provided

Project supplies:
  • Ruler - 1 x 12 inches 
  • Sewing machine in good working order, cord, manual and foot pedal.
  • New machine needle size 70 or 80
  • REQUIRED: Walking foot to fit your sewing machine. An open toe walking foot is best but bring what you have. You must have a walking foot.
  • Safety pins - 50 1-inch long
  • Quilter's gloves (if you already have them)

Basic Sewing Supplies

  • Scissors, seam ripper, empty bobbiins, extra machine needles, marking pencil. 
  • Thread - 50 weight or thinner in a color that will contrast with the light quilt top fabric, ie. dark brown, navy, red or black.
  • Bobbins filled with a contrasting color from the quilt top thread. For example, if your top thead is block, bring a bobbin with red thread. 
 
Other supplies: Please bring paper and pen for notes.

CLASS POLICY
Register in person, by mail or call using credit, check or cash. All classes must be paid in full upon registration.

REFUNDS
No refunds issued unless we cancel the class. We notify you if a class is cancelled at least 24 hours in advance; you may receive a refund or a store credit. If you cancel 12 days in advance, you receive store credit. If you can't make it, send a friend!

FABRIC AND SUPPLIES
Please purchase class supplies at the Quilted Fox to keep our pretty store's roof over our heads. The class you pay for is the class you attend. Any make-up classes are at the teacher's discretion.

Your receipt is your class reminder - we don't make reminder calls. Please review the class supply list at home and bring everything with you.
